Thriving Women:Why My Focus Is Midlife and Beyond

There’s a stage of life that doesn’t get talked about enough. It’s the stage where your hormones are shifting, your body might be asking new things of you, and life is somehow busier than ever. I call it midlife and beyond, and after 25 years in clinical practice, it’s become the heart of my work.

I want to explain why, and what that means for how I support the women who come to see me.

It started with noticing a pattern

Over the years, I began to notice that so many of the women sitting across from me were dealing with some version of the same story. A woman in her late 40s whose periods had become unpredictable and whose sleep had fallen apart. A woman recovering from breast cancer treatment, wanting to feel strong in her body again. A woman holding down a career, raising teenagers and caring for ageing parents, running on empty with no idea how to refill the tank.

Different presentations, but a common thread: this is a life stage that asks a great deal of women, often while their bodies are also changing beneath them. And it’s a stage that deserves proper, dedicated care.

The three places I focus my work

Perimenopause and beyond. The hormonal transition into menopause can affect far more than your cycle: mood, sleep, energy and your nervous system all shift too. I’ve become increasingly interested in this space, including presenting on perimenopause at a community health night in 2023, and I continue to see how much relief is possible with the right herbal and nutritional support.

Midlife health challenges. This is the stage of life where new diagnoses have a way of surfacing; autoimmune conditions, osteopenia, thyroid changes, and for some, breast cancer. I have a particular interest in supporting women through breast cancer specifically, working alongside medical treatment to support the body’s resilience before, during and after.

Stress and resilience. So many women in this stage are holding more than they let on. Chronic stress doesn’t just affect mood, over time it affects hormones, immunity and long-term health. Building resilience here isn’t about adding one more task to an already full plate; it’s about steady, sustainable support.

What ties it all together

Whatever brings a woman to see me, my approach is the same. I look at the whole picture, not just your symptoms, but your life stage, your nervous system, and what’s being asked of you day to day. I believe in strong foundations rather than quick fixes: nourishment, sleep, emotional balance and connection, supported by carefully chosen herbal medicine and nutritional tweaks.

The body has an innate intelligence. My role is to help create the conditions for it to respond;

with care, clarity and depth, at exactly the stage of life when you need it most.

If you’re navigating perimenopause, a new diagnosis, or simply feel like you’re running on empty, I’d be honoured to support you.
